Mission Statement
Owls for Israel (OFI) functions to promote Israeli culture at Rice University, to educate the Rice and larger Houston community on social and political issues regarding the Middle East, and to host social events to highlight Israeli culture. Additionally, OFI will collaborate with other Rice student organizations, such as the Rice Muslim Student Association and the Forum for Arab-Israeli Affairs, to sponsor both educational and social events on campus. OFI aims to illustrate that Israel is a much richer “notion” than what is seen solely in news regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
OFI has published several columns this year in the Jewish Herald-Voice, Houston’s leading Jewish Newspaper. These columns range from Op-Eds to Campus News, all of which strengthen Rice’s ties with the Houston Jewish Community in order to raise awareness for Israel and bring future support to OFI. OFI currently advertises such events by posting ads in the Jewish Herald-Voice, using the web, and posting information around the Rice University Campus through the rights of the Rice University Hillel – as stipulated under the SA’s bylaws.
